"See It At the Movies": Using Film to Teach Leadership and Critical Thinking

In this Brown Bag session, I will present my extensive use of film to teach critical thinking in Leadership, an M-course elective from the College of Business and Economics.  Over the past three years, I have used film and film reviews to introduce the subject of critical thinking, film analysis to test student content knowledge of the course material, and film production to teach and record process knowledge of leadership and teams.  As introduction, I will discuss briefly the organization of the course, and follow with a presentation of segments from student-produced films.  I conclude with comments from their group process papers and evaluations to demonstrate the learning that is achieved through this method.  The wide applicability of the content material and the student preference for parody should make this an informative and entertaining presentation for all disciplines.
